Watch What We Watch

Watch What We Watch

As our society moves forward and advances with modern technology, unapologetic and graphic images appears commonly in everyday media.  Violence in the entertainment industry seems to be the perfect recipe for box office hit. Audiences regularly exposed to such images prompt apathetic feeling towards reality or what actually transpired in the back doors of each community. The audience tends to lost touch with reality.  Have you heard of the saying “history repeats itself”? In the ancient times spectators enjoyed the arena excitement of violence. I remember watching the movie Gladiator, and this movie brought me back in time. I witness their screaming passion for violence and understood more the kind of society they are in back then. Today the electronic violent games delivers the same effect.  No wonder a lot of parents forbid their children to play Halo or COD as it is both violent and addictive. Not only are people normalized by today's and yesterday's graphic images but have developed craving as well. Violent images are not only in games and movies, but out in the news as well. Every time I watch the news, I see some sort of violence, be it in street shootings, protests, war zones or even in homes (domestic violence) . It is everywhere, seems to me it has become a standard in our society. That is why watching the news is not something I really look forward to watching anymore.  An example is a picture or video that has a warning saying “viewer’s discretion advised”. Supposedly a caution of the graphic images about to be shown, yet people are intrigued and are more drawn it.  Is this a pattern of  behavior and habit that was passed down from one generation to another? Why do people find so much fun, challenge and thrill in it?  Are we not in a modern world today, believed to be more intelligent, educated and should know better? It is about time that we ‘wake up’ and take steps to control our inner crave for this false excitement that may potential lead to fatal outcome.

  1. I agree that its sometimes silly that some people crave violence for for and no truth. Myself never found violent video games entertaining but for people who do I think its because it makes them scared and they are hit with adrenaline because sometimes they are lazy to make natural adrenaline in the real world.

  2. For sure, nowadays people seem to have overlooked the gravity of violence in our entertainment world today. We need to get off our couch. You're right should have other source for adrenaline, be more active and exercise!
